Ms Dantzler has more than 30 year's experience and is a product of Hamilton County Schools (Chattanooga High School, 1968). She received her Bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Education (K – 12) from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a certification in Administration and Supervision from Trevecca University in Nashville.
She began her career with a focus on Exceptional Education at local elementary schools. After 16 years, she believed her background enabled her to work with all students to increase academic achievement, so she transferred to Chattanooga Middle School. Chattanooga Middle School was one of the first 6-12 configurations, at a time where the middle school concept was in its infancy.
Ms. Dantzler then was afforded two unique opportunities in her career. First, she worked with the Lyndhurst Foundation as a founding faculty member at Phoenix II (the first school outside of CSAS to implement the Paideia program for students), where she was quickly selected to be an Instructional Coach for teachers. Second, with the merger of the former Chattanooga City Schools and Hamilton County, she held a district level position as the Coordinator of Standards, Accountability and Testing. This developed her understanding in the area of curriculum for all grades and the appropriate assessments to measure what students comprehend.
Her career then shifted to administration, where she served as Assistant Principal at Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts for two years, followed by Principal at Tyner Middle Academy. During her five year tenure at Tyner, the school “graduated” from a high priority school to one receiving state recognition for its scores. Most recently Ms. Dantzler was Principal of Ooltewah Middle School, where in three years scores continued to increase and are now above local and state levels in all areas.
Ms. Dantzler says that she views her next opportunity, as Principal of East Hamilton Middle and High School “with excitement, but also with a serious approach. The responsibilities will be extensive, difficult, but most of all, rewarding.”
Ms. Dantzler has been married to her husband, Steve, for 32 years. They have one daughter, Taylor Morrison, and one grandson, Layne, who will be in kindergarten at Nolan Elementary on Signal Mountain. |
